As a downtown parent in Pioneer Square, I am very passionate about the possibility of adding a school physically located in downtown Seattle. With the addition of more and more families downtown, this will help to build a strong community and serve as an incentive to keep families downtown longer.

Please consider attending a meeting to show support for these efforts. It is something that will only contribute to a better downtown — because as we all know, a place that is safe and friendly for kids is a place that is safe and friendly for everyone:

Seattle Public Schools recently submitted an application to develop a school at the site of the former Federal Reserve Bank on 2nd Avenue. Next Monday, July 28, the School Board will hold a community conversation about this potential development, allowing for public comment. After the meeting, there will be a tour of the potential school space.

Seattle School Board Community Conversation Regarding a Downtown School
Monday, July 28: 6:00 – 7:00 PM
Seattle Central Library, 1000 4th Avenue

Followed by a tour of the former Federal Reserve Bank building at 7pm.

Action Requested:
We need your voice at this meeting! Please show your support for this development by attending Monday’scommunity conversation and letting the School Board know that:

  • Downtown is growing rapidly. It’s the largest Seattle neighborhood without a public elementary school.
  • In the last six years the number of K-12 students living Downtown has increased by nearly 25 percent to 598 kids.
  • The number of people moving into Downtown is growing rapidly. Providing a public school will help ensure families are able to stay Downtown.
  • The former Federal Reserve Bank building offers the district an affordable option to develop a school with close proximity to terrific education resources, such as the Seattle Central Library, the Seattle Aquarium, Soundbridge at Benaroya Hall and the Seattle Art Museum.
  • Property Downtown is scarce and expensive. It may be years before we see a comparable opportunity; we need to take advantage of the availability of this site NOW!

Unable to attend? Email the school board at schoolboard@seattleschools.org.
